Why now
In May 2026, a breach at Meari Technology exposed 1.1 million WiFi baby monitors and security cameras across 118 countries, feeds included. LIL1 takes a different approach: it has no server, so there is nothing to breach. The feed only ever travels directly between two of your own Apple devices.
Key features
- Local-only and PIN-paired. Devices connect directly over Apple's peer-to-peer transport, encrypted, with pairing locked to a one-time 6-digit PIN.
- Sound alerts, screen off. The parent unit watches the sound level and notifies you when a loud sound keeps up, even with the screen off.
- Audio always, video on demand. Lightweight live audio is the default, so the baby unit's battery lasts the night. Video is available with a tap.
- Push-to-talk. Hold the talk button on the parent device and your voice plays on the baby unit, like a walkie-talkie. The baby unit stays in charge: it decides whether talking is allowed and how loud your voice plays.
- Brighter video in the dark. The camera automatically takes in more light as the room darkens, so the picture stays visible without a light on.
- Remote screen dim. The baby unit's screen can be dimmed and woken again from the parent device, without entering the room.
- Multiple parent devices. More than one parent device can connect to the same baby unit at once, for both parents or a grandparent.
- Works anywhere, no SDKs. A direct link forms with no router and no internet, built entirely on Apple frameworks with no third-party SDKs.
- Live connection reach. Both units show how far the connection reaches, measured by round-trip probes between the devices, so a weakening link is visible before it drops.
- Accessible by design. VoiceOver, Voice Control, Larger Text, Sufficient Contrast, Differentiate Without Color Alone, and Reduced Motion are supported and declared on the App Store.
- The backup for a forgotten monitor. Left the baby monitor at home, on a trip or at the grandparents? Two of your own devices become one in under a minute, and an old iPhone or iPad from a drawer works fine as a permanent baby unit.
How it works
- Pick a role. Open the app on both devices and choose Baby on one, Parent on the other.
- Pair with a PIN. The baby unit shows a 6-digit PIN. Enter it on the parent device to pair securely.
- Listen and look. Live audio starts immediately. Tap to pull video whenever you want a peek.
